ในสมัยก่อน ด่านสิงขรเป็นช่องทางที่ไทย-พม่า ใช้เป็นเส้นทางผ่านติดต่อไปมา และมีชื่อเสียงในด้านการรบ การคมนาคมติดต่อค้าขายด่านสิงขรเป็นเส้นทางที่พวกพ่อค้าเเละนักเดินทางทั้งชาวไทยและชาวต่างประเทศใช้เป็นเส้นทางลัดระหว่างมหาสมุทรอินเดียกับอ่าวไทย และจุดนี้ยังเป็นส่วนที่เเคบที่สุดในประเทศไทยโดยวัดจากชายฝั่งแดนไทย-พม่าที่ด่านสิงขร ระยะทางเพียง 12 กิโลเมตรเท่านั้น ปัจจุบันบริเวณชายเเดนไทย-พม่าที่ด่านสิงขรมีตลาดค้าขายชายเเดนจำหน่ายสิ้นค้าของคนไทยเเละของพม่านักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเข้าไปเที่ยวชมเเละซื้อของฝากกลับบ้านได้ทุกวัน
จากตัวเมืองประจวบฯ ใช้เส้นทางหลวงหมายเลข 4 ถนนเพชรเกษม ลงไปทางใต้ เลี้ยวขวาประมาณ กิโลเมตรที่ 331 ตรงไปจะเจอสามเเยก ตำรวจตระเวนชายเเดน 146 ให้เลี้ยวซ้ายอีกประมาณ 4 กิโลเมตร ถึงด่านชายเเดนไทย-พม่า ระยะทางจากตัวเมืองถึงด่านสิงขรประมาณ 23 กิโลเมตร
