วัดกุยบุรี เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นมาตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนต้น พร้อมกับการสร้างเมืองกุยบุรี เพื่อใช้เป็นสถานที่ประกอบศาสนกิจในสมัยในนั้น ด้วยทำเลที่ตั้งอยู่ในย่านชุมชน เดิมชื่อว่าวัดกุย ตั้งอยู่ในอำเภอกุยบุรี จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ ติดกับแม่น้ำกุยบุรี เป็นศาสนสถานที่สำศัญทางพุทธศาสนาตั้งแต่โบราณ จนถึงปัจจุบัน ชาวเมืองกุยบุรี คลองวาฬ สามร้อยยอด ปราณบุรี ชาวจังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ และจังหวัดใกล้เคียงต่างให้ความเลื่อมใสศรัทธา โดยเฉพาะอดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดกุยบุรี หลวงพ่อมาก หรือบุญมาก หรือชาวมักเรียกว่าท่านว่า "หลวงพ่อในกุฏิ" เนื่องจากเมื่อท่านว่างเว้นจากภารกิจต่างๆของทางวัดแล้ว ท่านจะนั่งบำเพ็ญภาวนาของท่านอยู่เป็นประจำ เล่ากันว่าบางครั้งท่านจะเข้าสมาธิวิปัสสนาอยู่แต่ในกุฏิของท่าน ตลอด ๗ วันบ้าง ๑๕ วันบ้าง โดยท่านจะไม่ลุกและออกจากกุฏิของท่านไปไหนเลย ด้วยเหตุอันนี้เอง จึงได้มีคำเรียกท่านอีกคำหนึ่งว่า "หลวงพ่อในกุฏิ" สันนิษฐานว่าน่าจะปกครองวัดกุยบุรี อยู่ในราว พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๐ - ๒๕๑๓ หลวงพ่อในกุฏิท่านเป็นผู้เคร่งครัดในด้านวิปัสสนา กัมมัฎฐาน จนทำให้ชาวบ้านเชื่อว่าหลวงพ่อในกุฏิเป็นผู้มีวาจาสิทธ์ และมีวิชาอาคมแกร่งกล้า ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ มีอิทธิฤทธิ์ ใครขออะไรกับท่านมักไม่ผิดหวัง และท่านเป็นผู้มีเมตตาจิต ได้ช่วยเหลืออนุเคราะห์ และสงเคราะห์กับคนทุกเพศ ทุกวัย เป็นที่พึ่งอาศัยของคนทั้งหลาย ที่ทุกข์กาย ทุกข์ใจ ทุกชนชั้นอยู่ตลอดเวลา ตลอดจนถึงได้สั่งสอนให้ประชาชนยึดมั่นในคำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนา ทำให้ท่านเป็นที่เคารพเลื่อมใสศรัทธาของประชาชน หลังจากหลวงพ่อในกุฏิได้มรณภาพไป ชาวบ้านจึงได้ช่วยกันสร้างรูปเหมือนของท่าน และบรรจุอัฐิของท่านไว้ภายใน ให้ชาวบ้านได้ระลึกถึง และสักการบูชา การได้มาทำบุญ กราบไว้หลวงพ่อในกุฏิ ที่วัดกุยบุรีสักครั้งหนึ่ง จึงเป็นเหมือนสิริมงคลของชีวิต ของพุทธศาสนิกชน
